Happiest Thing/Moment of todAy
Needless to say, it's the email from NOC that notified me that I have been allocated my fiRST cHoice, that is, Bio Valley, in Philadelphia USA! Which means i'll get to study in UPenn, and in Wharton School of Business for that entire 1yr! yAy! I was ecstatic with joy and excitement when I saw the email...
Had been hoping to get my first choice ever since I was accepted by NOC last sep, but I was a little sceptical abt getting it too cos I'm frm EE and BioValley, to be honest, specialises in biotech, bioengin, biomedical and biopharmaceutical high-tech startups....
and so I was tinkin that they might give me other destinations instead...
Well, I'm reali reali happy...
Thanks....

First up, sorry bro Qian, i reali wanted to join ur for supper juz now but couldn't....Junhui onli left my house at 2am...and i had to stay up till now cos i had to complete the program by tonite...it's not for the amphibious proj but another mod...the Microprocessor systems mod...major proj.....40%, i'll join ur nxt time when i can afford the time k...

I was reali on cloud 9 when i saw the email this aftn in the comp lab while waitin for Jiarong's tutorial to end....I immediately smsed and called my mum, sis, bros and other close frens...wanted to share the happy news with those close to me....

Panda Mei reali made me feel so touched when she said she'll definitely come to see me off....seriously, i was touched...cos she's a fren whom i had onli reali acquainted late last sem but we've hit it off very well ever since...but hee...i did not tell her that the flight would most probably be a midnite flight....hmmm....i wonder whether she'll still come when she hears abt tis....hahaz...

Aniwaiz, Jiarong asked me a question which many frens had asked me before.....Why Bio Valley?

Many EE and CPE applicants would undoubtedly choose Silicon Valley, the most established destination of the 4 choices....and the other 2 being Shanghai and Stockholm.....Well, ironically, as an EE student, I chose to place Bio Valley as my first choice, and Silicon as my last choice....The reason is simple....

First, I've alwaiz been interested in the biotech, biomedical and bio-related fields....rem i've alwaiz wanted to be a doctor?? I wasn't kidding when i said that it has alwaiz been my ambition...
Second, while Silicon Valley might be a hotbed for computer and electrical engineers, software programmers and the like, I see no point in me going over there to further saturate the environment....I mean, there are like probably thousands of geniuses over there oredi, some even Nobel Laureates....but over at Bio Valley, it's a different story....Relative to SV, i'll be considered 'different' in BV as most of those who are in BV are specialised in bio-related fields....and not many in EE...
With my different skills, I feel that i'll have more opportunities to perform and grab over at BV....Anyway, i've alwaiz believed that the so called 'safest' or 'best' path to take doesn't apply in entrepreneurship....What opportunities are there left for one who chooses to tread on the 'safest' path?
All the goodies would oredi hav been fully exploited and taken away by pioneers....Entrepreneurs succeed because they can suss out new potential fields of 'undetected' goldmines...they succeed because they have the foresight, the experience, the guts to explore new areas, new niches.....

I shan't go on abt dat....i could blabber on for an entire dae...but in short, that is why I decided to put BV as my first choice when i sent in my application form last April....

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the advice from my bros and my mum, I've decided not to apply for the Siemens programme to go to Germany.....yah, they are right, NOC is the one for me....
Changsheng asked me to accompany him to submit his application form for the Siemens programme....Zhiwei will be submitting nxt wk....I've talked to Jiarong and Junhui and encouraged them to apply too....
I sure hope all my 4bros will get that....then all of us will be away from NUS for dat 2 sems....and broaden our horizons in different parts of the globe....

Right now, I need to focus on securing a company placement and the application of the VISA and then I'll be off to Philadelphia in July....There's a compulsory briefing for us nxt wk....and so the details will come flowing in then...

I'm feeling pretty excited about the entire Bio Valley thingy.....I mean, look at the timeline...
Mid-April 05 - Handed in my application form
Mid-May 05 - Had my first round of interview by the Program manager and a NOC alumnus
Late-Aug 05 - Notified that I've been shortlisted and subsequently, had my 2nd round of interview by 2 profs
Mid-Sep 05 - Accepted into the program
Today - Allocation of destinations

It's been a long wait...almost 1 yr....and i'm feeling excited cos I'll get to work alongside entrepreneurs....and unlike the usual attachments or internships....over there, my status, my responsibilities would be on par with everyone in the high-tech startup.....I'll get to handle major clients, i'll be even expected to handle business deals on my own and clinch them....basically, that's how startup companies work....everyone is expected to noe and do everythg independently and efficiently....

A fren of mine, Lawrence, who is 1 yr my senior and from Bioengin, is at Bio Valley right now, he's from the previous batch.....barely a week since he started work, he was given the responsibilty of handling the company's corporate exhibition at somewhere in Europe....i was quite shocked when i heard dat....I mean....he's fully in charge, and the exhibition is crucial to the company as many of the major industry players will be there too....and he gets to fly too =)
Which is oso wat excites me....the opportunities to do 'big' things....and whether the company flourishes or collapses.....I'll be part of it....

Well, i'm absolutely sure I'll do my utmost to make it flourish.....I can't wait to go over....I can't wait to make my mark over there, I can't wait to make it big....I can't wait to succeed.....I can't wait to study at UPenn's Wharton Biz Sch as i work hard in the startup company concurrently....

Whoo....it's 4am oredi...and tmr i've got a long dae at Junhui's house doing our major project.....for now, I shall concentrate on my studies....and complete what's necessary...

nitez.....I am happy, and I'll continue striving hard to achieve my goals, my dreams....

My hArd woRk is pAyinG off....i'lL conTinue doinG so....the sky's the limiT....
Go on, my bros, my close frens....let's work hard tog, and tog, we shall achieve our dreams!
c'mon, let's GO! =)
